The photo was taken at the Everard Read Art Gallery in Johannesburg, South Africa. A friend and I decided to walk along Jan Smuts and looked at all the Art galleries along that road and in that area. This particular part of the art gallery is a pathway that leads to the top floor and it winds itself around the outside of the building.Time
It was around half past four during the day and this was one of the last art galleries that we looked at. At the top of the building we sat on couches and watched the sun set.Lighting
The building is a piece of art itself, a true architectural beauty. Along the outside it has black metal panels and the sun shines through them, that is what created the stripes in the photograph, which has resulted in a beautiful pattern. I did not do any lighting myself, it was all natural.Equipment
I am still young and at the time I didn't have a camera, I took this photo with my phone's camera. I have a Sony Xperia Z5 phone, which has a 23mp camera.Inspiration
It was the first time I had been to the gallery and I found the experience of walking in it very interesting. It was a wonderful experience walking up to the top floor with the light shinning in through the black panels like it did in the photo. I thought it would make a wonderful image and I also really wanted to be able to show people what it looked like so that they could experience a little of what I experienced. I wanted the image to also encourage people to go to the art gallery, which in it's self is art.Editing
I didn't do a lot of post-processing. The only thing I did was take down the saturation to make it black and white, which in my opinion made the stripes stand out more and made the image look more aesthetically pleasing to the eye.In my camera bag
Now I have a Nikon D3200, so I usually take that which has two lenses. It has a 18-55mm lens and a 55-200mm lens, I personally prefer the 55-200mm lens. I will also usually take with me a special wipe for wiping the lens, just in case.Feedback
With a photo like this it's very important to get the right angle, it must be an angle that portrays the pattern well. I think the post-processing is also very important and plays an important role because in a photo like this it needs to be pleasing to the eye. This can be difficult to achieve because it's easy for an image like this to look too busy and you want it to be easy on the eye. It's also very important because just the image on it's own can sometimes look boring and unappealing but if you edit it well then it will look appealing.
