Behind The Lens
Location
I took this photograph at Montezuma Wildlife Refuge, New York.Time
It was late afternoon on a very hot summer day.Lighting
I was looking for a silhouette of the Blue Heron in the tall grasses so I made sure the light was behind me and low. I sat for a while watching this beautiful bird as it slowly waded in the low water looking for food. I snapped several photographs of it. I love the stillness it gives the photograph.Equipment
The camera used is an Canon EOS Rebel T3i with an Ultrasonic lens 75-300mm.Inspiration
I love the wilderness and the animals that live in these places. I must admit that the Blue Heron is one of my favorite birds to photograph, there is a particular majesty and magic they have that appeals to me. Watching it hunt for food captivated me and stayed an watched for quite a while.Editing
I did a little post processing to make it into a black and white to give it a more poignant and stark feel.In my camera bag
I always carry the Ultrasonic 35-500mm lens and the Canon EFS 18-55mm. I do carry my tripod with me as well.Feedback
Take as many photographs as you can, at different angles and distances. Take photographs in different weather and at different times of day. Most of all be patient, not only with yourself but with the material you are shooting.
