I decided to get my old digital camera out and get a close up angle shot of the small onshore waves at the beach. I was kneeling in the sand with my portable camera slightly out of the water because it was not a water proof camera, the timing was hard to get right when the waves were breaking but I finally captured the perfect barrel.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo I captured in Western Australia in a small city called Busselton my home town. There are many nice beaches here. The photograph was captured at Geography Bay Foreshore Busselton on a summers day.

Time

The photographe I captured was in the afternoon before sunset around 4.30pm.

Lighting

The lighting is natural lighting from the sun. The natural lighting from the sun lit up the wave nicely because the sun was lined up in the correct position. I captured the wave in motion at the right time of day to get the lighting effect.

Equipment

I used my first ever camera which is a little hand held digital Sony Cybershot.

Inspiration

The idea just came to mind I did not plan anything for this image. I was walking my dog along the beach and thought to myself that it would be cool to use my first ever hand held digital camera which I carry in my bag along with my Nikon D5200. The camera I used for this image only shoots in auto mode. I got down as low as the small waves were breaking and trying to get the angle right to make the wave look big. The size of the wave size was around 30cm but in the image the wave looks big this what I was hoping for creating a bigger wave for the viewer. It took a few attempts to capture this image for the right wave and angle.

Editing

Yes I processed this image by decreasing the highlights, sharpening, adding vibrance and saturation for the colours.

In my camera bag

I normally carry a Nikon D5200 with a Tamron 77mm 10-24 wide angle lens and a standard Nikon lense. I carry a tripod and sometimes a Tamron 200-400mm zoom lens for night photography and Nature photography.

Feedback

I recommend a fast shutter speed to capture the wave in motion to stop motion blur, also a fast focus because of the fast movement of the wave to prevent blurry pictures.
