Behind The Lens

Location

I was in Montana visiting Glacier National Park for the first time when I took this photo.

Time

This shot was taken mid-morning on a fall day.

Lighting

The clouds had diffused the light and there was no wind resulting in the mirror like state of the Lake.

Equipment

This was taken with an iPhone 6 - I usually shoot with both my iPhone for social media posting and also my Sony A7R.

Inspiration

This was a special outing; I was showing my parents the majesty of Glacier. I had been on the road traveling in my RV for the past 8 months and they had flown out to see me. It was a perfect fall day crisp and cool; the Lake was perfectly still with beautiful reflections of the mountains and the changing leaves.

Editing

I use Snapseed to process my iPhone photos. I auto-tuned and applied very light HDR.

In my camera bag

I always carry my iPhone. My standard kit is mirrorless. I shoot with the Sony A7R and use the Sony 10-18, Sony 24 - 240 or Zeiss 16 - 35. I love the quality of the photos and the lighter weight of the gear.

Feedback

Glacier is a wonderland for photographers with plenty of opportunities. This is an iconic shot but I encourage you to go into the back country to be rewarded with deeper, richer experiences and photos.
