Love the moodyness that the long exposure brings to this photo, the soft water and soft clouds very beautiful!

Interesting. I assume this was accomplished by a long shutter speed on a partially frozen river?

The soft water and soft clouds contrasting with the sharp ice is stunning.

I love the fact that the water seems to run downhill from the sea. Great shot. Congratulations.

Thanks everyone! I'm honored to be one of the finalists, wish me luck! ;)
Just to let you know, I'm in the army for another 4 months so I haven't been able to post new images as often as I'd like to. But I'm doing my best! :)

Wonderful composition of horizontal lines. The ice formations are nicely detailed, and the rock a good counterpoint.

Location
This photograph was taken in Iceland on our way from Reykjavik to Akureyri. I can't recall the detailed location, but up north and under a 100 kilometers from Akureyri!Time
This was taken just before sunset, around 17:00 local time.Lighting
I was lucky to catch the only moving clouds before they disappeared into the distance. I placed the sun behind me for tthree reasons. One; I didn't want to blow out the sky, two; I felt it looked better to shoot up the river and not down and three; because I wanted to catch the moving clouds.Equipment
Nikon D90, Sigma 10-20/4-5.6 and a Triopo MT-228 tripod. Also a Hoya ND400 was used. Oh, and a remote trigger!Inspiration
To be honest, I'm not sure. I always follow my gut when photographing and this just felt really good. The combination of the powerful flow of water breaking the frozen ice on top of it felt special. I like to find some sort of contrast in my photography.Editing
I did do color correction in photoshop, sharpening and also a bit of dodgin and burning. In my camera bag
That depends on the type of photography I'm going to do! I just got myself a new camera a week ago so right now I tend to have a D610, 70-200/2.8 Tamron, 50/1.8 nikkor and a 20/2.8 Nikon. Filters, cleaning kits, grey card, memory cards and other small equipment are always a must in the bag.Feedback
I can tell you all the specifics, settings and thought processes that make for a good photograph. But I'd rather not, because that’s not what it's about. It's about listening and trusting your gut. It’s about letting the rules be, because you more or less know them anyway, and about focusing on your personal picture-taking process. Put the tripod in a spot that FEELS right to you. Then adjust the angle to a position to what FEELS right to you. Then adjust the settings to what FEELS right to you. This is the only way to be creative. Hope that didn't sound too negative. : D
