I took this picture when I went to visit the historic state park in Coloma, CA. This shop, built by Perly Monrow about 1900, is representative of the many blacksmith shops in Coloma during and after the gold rush period. An essential member of the community, the blacksmith repaired and manufactured almost everything made from metal, including small hardware, wagons, and tools for both miners and farmers. This particular shop still operates today.
