Location
This little blue bird was resting in a Sycamore tree, and seemed to be so intent on taking in all the changes around it, which offered the perfect opportunity to take this photo.Time
I think the mornings are the best time to capture the activity of birds and animals, such as this one around 9 am. They are so anxious to begin their day! I've seen them play (or what I assume to be play!), fight, and sing to the top of their little lungs! There is nothing more enjoyable than listening to all the different birds begin their day.Lighting
I am far from a pro, so my photos are nearly always in a natural lighting/setting.......I rarely use a flash. I think the natural lighting is the best way to capture something in its natural habitat. I do love the look of a 'glow' when there's a break in the clouds and the sun rays shine through and sometimes, if we're at the right place at the right time.....the magic is captured!Equipment
I don't have any fancy equipment, my camera is a Fugi Finepix SL1000 16 megapixels and 50x zoom. I LOVE the zoom option. I think you can capture a memory with any camera......it's about timing......and lots of patience!Inspiration
I'm up every morning at or before 5 am, and I guess I am obsessed with being out when the birds and animals start their day because they offer so much entertainment during the morning hours! And I can't imagine starting the day any other way. The bird in this photo had tried several limbs on the Sycamore before finally settling on this one...it had wiggled around and found its 'comfort' spot and settled in to weather the wind and cold.Editing
After viewing the photo, I felt it was better to just leave it alone....the color in the little blue bird was enough and nestled on the tree surrounded by the ice just enhanced the blue color naturally. In my camera bag
I have no camera bag....my camera goes wherever I go!Feedback
If you want to capture something specific, you must be patient!! Generally, I've noticed, animals develop a pattern or routine....if you observe them...it gives you some planning time and options about where you want to watch...and wait!! for just the right shot. I've taken several photos at a time (as I'm sure most people do!) and maybe 1 out of 15 will actually capture something unique. You never know what an animal will do......so you just have to watch and wait!
