I took this photo in one of the photo studios here at my school, The College For Creative Studies in Detroit, MI!Time
It was a very last minute shoot. We were lucky to get the studio to ourselves for a late night session! We were in the studio taking these photos from about 7:00 P.M. to 9:30 P.M.Lighting
This was my very first studio shoot, so I was a bit nervous about the lighting. I was especially nervous because the lights I was provided with were much larger and much more intimidating than the two little photo lights that I own, and have used for small shoots in the past. I wanted the light to obviously accentuate my model, as we kept everything else in these photos plain and white. I mainly wanted to focus on the beauty of her facial features. With the help of some other CCS students/staff, and quite a bit of trial and error, I think we aced it! I felt especially proud, considering it was my very first studio shoot. I'm thankful to come to school and to be surrounded by the wonderful, patient, and kind artists that I see every day. I'm not sure I would've ended up as happy with this shoot without their help! Anything woEquipment
I used my camera, which is a Canon Rebel T3. I switched between two lenses - my 18-55 mm, and mainly, I used my 55-250 mm lens. I used a tripod for a few shots, but I move around so much and just feel so much more comfortable holding the camera free hand. For some reason, I completely dislike using flash, so we arranged the lighting to our liking, and so that I could turn my flash off and still get a clear image. Soft boxes were used as well with the lights.Inspiration
I was doing a project on the Greek Goddess Aphrodite. That explains the white sheet, and the sort of "sensual" feel you get from this series of photographs. This photo in particular doesn't really represent Aphrodite, but during the shoot, I had to get at least a few close ups in of my model, as she is stunning!Editing
Come to think of it, not much post processing was done! Me and my fellow CCS classmate (model Jordyn Varacalle), met up, discussed the main idea we were both going for for the shoot, and got to it. We clicked right away, as this was our first time meeting each other, and that was a huge part of this shoot going as smoothly as it did.In my camera bag
In my bag, I usually just keep my camera with the neck strap attached, my two lenses (as mentioned above) with their lens covers protecting them, my camera charger, a few "inspiration" photos, and a couple extra memory cards.Feedback
Make sure that you and the people that you are working with understand each other. The main thing that will help you is a comfortable, at ease, environment, Get comfortable with the people you're collaborating and working with. Try all sorts of poses, angles, etc. Move your lights around and experiment with what happens! Let your model be free!
