This was taken in my home studio, in High Wycombe, England.Time
Mid afternoon. It was a bleak and rainy day and I didn't feel like going out with the camera. I spent some time in the studio instead.Lighting
I used a 150w continuous lamp in a soft box as a fill light and fired a remote speed light from behind the rolled paper to highlight the coloured side.Equipment
Canon 50D, Canon EF-S 18-55mm at 55mm, f/5.6, 1/10 exposure, ISO100, 1960s Slick Master tripod with a tilt and pan head, Yongnuo Speedlight YN565EXII, 150w 5500k continuous light with 60x90cm softbox.Inspiration
I'd been out shopping for some new card to use as small backdrops for product shots. When at the store I noticed a pack of multicoloured card at a bargain price. A while later I opened the pack and discovered that the 'card' was really no more than thin paper with a gloss finish. This wasn't obvious in the store and really wasn't suitable for what I wanted. I got one piece of each colour and sat playing around with it. With the addition of a couple of clothes pegs to hold the shape thought I might be able to make a picture out of it.Editing
My post processing ability is quite limited. I cropped the image slightly and adjusted the clarity and saturation. In my camera bag
I tend to travel light as I enjoy street photography and don't like to be weighed down. I normally carry a Canon 40D or 50D, 35mm and 50mm prime lenses, a speedlight and Joby Gorilla pod tripod.Feedback
For this photo it was just a case of playing around with the paper and creating a shape that might be pleasing to the eye. Once the shape was made and held in place it was trial and error with the angle of the shot and adjusting the lights. This image was the 'keeper' out of 46 images. My only advice would be to make sure you have the time available to experiment with different lighting angles and output powers. Patience was the key to creating this image!
