Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the evening hours after a long day of photography. This photo was taken at Benezette PA.

Time

The photo was taken in the evening around 5:00pm to capture the best light.

Lighting

The lighting is very tough in this particular area because of the trees the surround the field. This specific spot was receiving direct light but softened by the evening position.

Equipment

I used a Canon 7D M2 with a 500mm f4.5 on a tripod. No filter or flash.

Inspiration

I wanted to capture the fall season colors as a background. This position did that nicely I think.

Editing

Yes, since I shoot in a raw format I did do some adjustments to the photo. It is slightly cropped and minor adjustments were made to the saturation for the fall colors and just a bit of increased black and white color.

In my camera bag

I usually only carry my camera, 500mm lens, and tripod, but have access to a 17-40mm, 70-200mm, and 50mm macro lenses. I also bring a flash, better beamer, and remote. other than that it's most cleaning supplies and rain covers.

Feedback

Always be mindful of the subjects your photographing. Be cautious about how close you are and never put yourself or the animal in danger. Leave the area as if you had never been there . Animals who are frightened almost never make good subjects. Keep the sun to your back and your equipment clean. Be aware of your camera settings because you may never get the same chance again. Be prepared with a few test shot before the animal shows up. Lastly, have fun and enjoy your time in the outdoors.
