This was not a pre-planned shot- we had a lucky few minutes this day when the sun shone in through the window and seemed to be a perfect match for his body. I had to capture it.

I took this photo at home, in my bedroom.Time
Morning, sun shining almost directly straight through the window.Lighting
I always notice the light shining in the rooms of my house at different times. It's so beautiful how it picks up shapes and colours, and changes all the time. It's never the same twice. That's why if I see a beautiful silhouette or lighting happening that I want to capture, I jump on it! I know I'll probably never get the chance again otherwise. So when I saw the lighting falling through the window onto the model, I just got up and grabbed the camera!Equipment
I used a Canon t4i with the Sigma lens at 27mm, f8, at ISO 200 and shutter speed at 1/100. No extra lighting was used or it would have ruined the effect. I didn't use a tripod as I felt rushed and did not want to set one up.Inspiration
The lighting falling so wonderfully on his body as we were laying there! It was an entirely impromptu "shoot"; I had to jump up and quickly get my camera and snap a few shots before the sun moved and changed the lighting. Originally he had his legs straight; when I noticed how the shadow lines were divided by the window frame, I moved his right leg to align with that divide line to create a more dynamic effect.Editing
I do much of my editing in Lightroom 5. Very little was done to this one. I shot it in RAW, so it has been changed to black and white instead of the colour original. I think the B&W really leads you to see the light and shadow play more clearly and is much more visually dramatic. Besides that I increased the contrast as well, and adjusted the clarity up, again to enhance the light and shadow patterns and add to the drama. In my camera bag
Currently my equipment is at the entry level of the DSLR world, since that's what the bank account allowed. I have a Canon t4i which I almost always have a Sigma 18-250 lens on. I like having a zoom lens for the versatility, because I often shoot on a whim or a quickly changing subject or situation. I always have my Thrifty 50mm (1.8 f) and my 24mm (2.8 f) pancake lens with me too, for when I can take the time to really set up for a good shot. Because I have some disabilities, which includes hand shakiness, I always try to buy lenses with stabilizers! That might be my most important "gear." Also always in the bag is a small tripod, extra batteries and cards, two flashes and controllers, tiny flash stands, flash modifiers and gels, and a video light, along with other odds and sods like lens hoods, etc. Did I mention extra batteries and cards?? Always have those!!Feedback
If you're shooting something similar, as in sunlit only shots, especially with patterns- you need to move quickly. Also, keep your eyes open to see if slight positioning changes can make a big difference to the final look. Take shots from different angles too. I find a combination of dynamic angles with strong dramatic lighting usually makes fantastic shots!
