I took this picture at French Creek Stables and Driving Center in Snohomish Washington. They raise Friesian horses, provide boarding and driving training.Time
I spend a great deal of time at these stables and around the beautiful Friesians they have there. This picture was taken in the early afternoon and this big boy's name is Winston. He is one of my favorites at the facility because he is so sweet. I fell in love with his sweet face the very first time I saw him.Lighting
This was a sunny day but where Winston was there were trees and shade. Normally I prefer to shoot early in the morning or late in the day for the best light, but on this day everything seemed to come together.Equipment
Cannon T3i with 75-300mm glass, hand held.Inspiration
I wanted to capture his sweet face and his deep eyes. I love horses and wanted to share what I find beautiful about them. I always go back to their big soulful eyes.Editing
I use Lightroom and all I did for this photo was sharpen it just a touch. In my camera bag
I carry 2 camera bodies now. A cannon 50D and Cannon Rebel T3i. As for glass I carry my 75/300mm and stock 18-55mm. I also carry assorted filters, SD and CF cards, extra battery packs, charger, car charger, lens cleaner and mono pod.Feedback
I have found that you have to be patient in working with animals. They have a mind of their own and don't always cooperate and can often be down right stubborn. Interact with them, let them know you so they become comfortable with you especially with horses. Take lots and lots of shots. Sometimes it can take 50 to 100 before I get something I really like. Think outside of the box and don't give up! I haven't been taking pictures very long, just a couple years or so and I still have so much to learn.
