Location
This photo of this poisonous frog was taken in Costa Rica in a grove of bush. He was hard to find due to his colours that mostly blended into the greenery.Time
We had gone out on a tour to see some of the wildlife, like these frogs, corn snakes, birds, monkeys and whatever else we might find. It was a beautiful day and we set out in the morning about 6am and we where out for the day. This frog finally found by noon to one pm. He was hiding, but I caught those blue legs and went in closer.Lighting
This little guy was in the bush and noonish, so the sun was direct but he was in the shade. I waiting for him to move out of the shade to get better lighting: adjusted my exposure and chose "sunny" as my lighting function.Equipment
I used my Canon 70D with my zoom lens 35-200mm and that's it.Inspiration
I was inspired because I was purposely looking for this type of wild life. There were no guarantees that we would see any of these frogs, but we were fortunate to see two!. Plus I love wildlife and nature.Editing
I must admit this was pretty much SOC, the only post-processing I did was with hues/colors. I always aim to get it right in the camera instead of having to process a lot.In my camera bag
My Canon 70D body, all my lens are Canon made. I carry my EF 50 mm 1:1.2 prime lens L USM, plus EFS 18-200 zoom 0.45m/1.5ft lens. Typically I will take my tripod, extra digital cards, extra battery, rain cover, and depending on what my intent is or if I think I need a flash, then I will add that with batteries & perhaps a diffuser. Last but not least: water!Feedback
My thoughts are that you need to know your location or be prepared for any possibilities, especially if you are shooting outdoors. When I was in Costa Rica looking for wildlife, I had to make changes for the high noon sun (harsh), then the wind, some water. For instance, I took a small white reflector that I could use to diffuse the sun for a softer shot. If I know I'm going to be our and about for several hours, I will cut down the gear I bring so I don't get too tired packing all my gear. Lastly, you should know what kind of shot you want to get, figure out where and if you can, preview the area looking for great angles, shadows, & light.
