Location
This photograph was taken on the North Yorkshire Moors, Near to WesterdaleTime
An early start was in order (5am) as sunrise was around 6.15am. Actually this was the second location of the morning so probably around 6.45am. I had scouted the location a few day prior - when another early start was rewarded only with light rain.Lighting
Overnight rain gave was to a clear morning but the cold night left a fog which slowly burnt back. The early light cast long shadows .Equipment
Shot on a canon 6d (Full Frame) with the f4 16-35mm IS lens which I find to be acceptable sharp. Of course this was mounted to my trusty Manfrotto 055 tripod, geared head. Cokin Z grad filter was used to hold back the sky. Mirror lock up and a cable release help maintain sharpness.Inspiration
Late August is the best time of year to visit these moors - the heather is colourful and if your lucky those autumn like mists are present.Editing
Edited in light room - not too many tweak were needed - maybe a few local adjustments to white balance and some contrast. I then always 'sharpen' using a high pass filter effect taught to me by my good friend Ian Snowden. In my camera bag
I also like using my 24mm TSE lens - great for getting down towards the floor for an impressive foreground. I would love the Mk2 but for the present my wallet will only allow the original version (Which is still pretty sharp)Feedback
Try to scout out good locations in advance and then have a think about the best time of day and year to revisit. I have a App on my phone to give sunrise and sunset times along with a compass bearing - you will be surprised then amount the sunrise changes - Not always in the east !
