Location
I took this image in 2007 in the Erg Chebbi desert on the fringes of the Sahara just before sunset. Coincidetially a tourist caravan was passing by and added to the appeal. A fascinating place of an ever changing landscape through wind and a challenging place for survival for the people living there.Time
I took the image just before sunset to capture the mood and soft shadows from the sand dunes. It turned out just as I expected.Lighting
From my experience I think the best time to capture glorious landscapes are the soft hours in the mid morning or mid to late afternoons.Equipment
I used a Canon EOS Rebel with a 17-55mm lens. A very versatile lens which has served me very well.Inspiration
The mood created by the sunlight was absolutely astonishing. The smooth shapes and curves and the resulting shadow where absolutely stunning. Why wouldn't you capture such a moment? The result speaks for itself I guess.Editing
Yes I did but only slightly. Which is not unusual for most landsacpe photographers. Slight manipulations to contrast, levels, hue/saturation and curves. In my camera bag
Since I took this photograph I have upgraded my equipment to a Canon EOS Mark II with a 17-40mm wide angle lens and a 100mm macro lens but kept the old camera as a back-up. I don't use filters however.Feedback
I guess photography boils down to experience and a good eye. Then trial and error and of course experimenting. In todays digital age you can take shot after shot and if you're still not happy then take a few more until you arrive at the desired result. You can always delete your previous take and replace it with a better one that suits you.
