Behind The Lens
Location
I took this photo in an old victorian house in Massachusetts.Time
This was shot during a relatively cloudy day at midday.Lighting
The lighting is partially natural and then enhanced with a softbox. I was playing around with the light coming through the window, just seeing what effects I could achieve. This ended feeling suitably natural.Equipment
This was shot with a canon 60D and the Sigma 18-35 mm art lens. I used a standard softbox light, and that was really it.Inspiration
I wanted to work on a mysterious series involving traveling salesmen in surreal landscapes. This was sort of an experiment to establish the visual language of the series.Editing
Post processing was done in Photoshop. I boosted the colors a bit, and enhanced the contrast, but I tried to stay pretty minimalist with the enhancements. I think sometimes I go too far in the color grade and lose something in the image. In my camera bag
I keep a lot of lenses with me, cleaning cloths, extra batteries, adaptors for vintage lenses, extra caps, a flash, a mini tripod. I have a small compact bounce in there as well. Lenses take up the most room.Feedback
Natural light is a fickle friend, but it's always worth playing with because you don't quite know what's going to happen.
