I took this in a corn field in Kansas in the June.Time
This was taken mid-day, but the sky was thickly overcast. June in Kansas is thunderstorm season - so it rained off and on during the entire shooting session. The mud was pretty incredible.Lighting
I would have loved some more intense lighting for this, but in the end the dispersion from the clouds made it easier to edit in all the crows that I needed for the productEquipment
This was shot on a Nikon D600 body with a Nikor 85mm f/1.8 lens. There was no lighting modification used.Inspiration
I recently reread The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe and I wanted to do something with black birds in relation to how their group is called a 'murder'. I loved how ominous, yet poetic, that title was.Editing
Obviously I added a ton of ravens and crows. That is the most of it. Other than that I boosted the contrast a little and made the model's hair bigger. All in all the shot was pretty great at the start - the crows were just icing on the cake.In my camera bag
My Nikon D600 body and my Nikkor f/1.8 lens. Normally that is all I need.Feedback
Be aware of your angles and your proportions. At the end of the day - that is what can make or break an image.
