I took this photo at Little Corona Del Mar Beach in Orange County, CATime
This was taken in the evening, about 20 minutes before sunsetLighting
My vision was to capture the light illuminating the waves. This took a lot of patience and I only had about 10 minutes of this warm glowing light. I shot this at 1/5 second so that the waves were frozen in mid airEquipment
I shot this on a Canon 60D, with a Canon 18-135 zoom lens, on a Gitzo tripodInspiration
We set out to capture the sunset at low tide at this famous rocky beach in Orange County. While scouting, I noticed the perfect set of waves crashing along the rocks. I played around with my camera settings until I was able to freeze the waves in mid air. I waited until the sun was just low enough to illuminate the waves, and aligned the rocks in the foreground to lead the viewers eye into the imageEditing
I processed this raw image in Photoshop, Color Effects Pro, and VivezaIn my camera bag
I recently upgraded my camera equipment. I'm shooting on a Sony A7R, with Sony native lens: 16-35mm, 24-70mm, 70-200mm. I also use a soft split 3 stop neutral density filter, 5 stop & 8 stop solid neutral density filters, and polarizersFeedback
I always say scout, scout, and scout! I always approach a scene with an open mind. I usually have an idea of what I would like to capture, but much of the time my best photos are unplanned like this one!
