Location
This photo was taken on a photo safari in Kenya. It was my first day out!Time
Taken late morning/noonLighting
Its a harsh time to shoot but If the light is positioned right you can still get some lower contrast images. I aimed for more backlight and used center average metering for more precise exposure.Equipment
Nikon D700, 80-400mm. Hand heldInspiration
We were driving around and this Lion came right to us on the same road. She was moving her cubs (3 in all) to a safer place. It was amazing watching her, a truly once in a lifetime experience.Editing
Some shadow/highlight control was used due to the backlightIn my camera bag
For Safaris I use a Nikon D850 200-400 f4, 80-200 2.8 and a 18-24 2.8. For general and city shoots a 60mm 2.8 macro, a 50mm 1.2, 24-300. A couple of speedlights, gitzo tripod and a ball head and clap for using on safari vehiclesFeedback
Take your time and plan your shot. Most photographers today take way to many images in the hope of getting the right timing
