This photo from my macro theme assignment I feel happiest about. A classmate and I were wandering around looking for things to shoot when I discovered this old Family Dollar shopping cart behind a strip mall. I flipped it over and saw all these strings and knots wrapped into the rusted bolt holding the wheel in place.

In Lightroom I used a radial filter to desaturate the bright red plastic of the cart which was competing with the lovely oranges, creams and blues of the wheel itself.

This isn’t a shot I planned out and yet I find myself drawn to it again and again. It’s not a baby, puppy or rainbow. It’s not the kind of photo I imagine people would hang on their walls, but it has a symmetry and beauty that I find oddly compelling. I love it.

I should’ve gone with a slower shutter speed so I could’ve kept my ISO lower. I used Lightroom’s noise reduction to help with that. I am not sure why I was shooting a stationary shopping cart at such a high speed. Alas.
