Behind The Lens

Location

This image was captures in Bend, Oregon on a bike ride around the resort where we were staying.

Time

It was the quintessential “golden hour” just prior to sunset. It was glorious and as beautiful as this image is it didn’t capture a tenth of how extraordinarily breathtaking it was.

Lighting

Golden hour, says it all.

Equipment

Canon 5dmk2 or 3. No flash, custom white balance, no tripod. It was either my L series 24-70 or 70-200. Likely the wider one as I think about the fact that I was in a bike.

Inspiration

Just look at the landscape, how much more inspiration does one need?

Editing

I post process in Lightroom. Enhanced the curve a bit and took down any hotspot brightness in the sky to make sure the sky showed its beautiful blue.

In my camera bag

Depending on the venue I have the aforementioned Canon gear, a flash, or my Sony A7r if hiking with its 24-70 lens.

Feedback

Just be observant. Framing is important, foreground to anchor the image, objects to frame the image help to draw ones eye to the intended subject and rule of thirds for placing ones horizon and sky.
