Location
This photo was taken in Bend, Oregon while on a company trip with SmugMug. The colors were jaw dropping and the evening a perfect still night. The sunset started with beautiful colors but then transformed the sky into a blaze of fire across the sky. Even this image doesn't do the night justice, but it does evoke a certain calm and awe over how incredible the world is and how fortunate we are to be able to see it's glory.Time

The question is rhetorical, right? How can one NOT be inspired by this?Editing
Used LR to enhance and allow the colors to be seen as close as they were in real life as I was standing there. In my camera bag
Canon 5D Mark III, 24-70 L 2.8, 70-200 L 2.8, 80 mm 1.8, a Sony A7R with a 24-70 Zeiss lens and various other things like flashes 580 EX, triggers for Alien Bee lights if I am doing portraits. In this instance, no flash or lights for the capture.Feedback
Be ready, have your gear with you, look for moments be observant. For the specifics of capture, use manual settings, with a not so shallow f stop, meaning f 5.6 or f 8 to allow for detail from front to back of the image. so you can get the foreground to be slightly lit while making the sky visible with all the detail and color you can. On auto the sky would have been beautiful, but the lake and trees would have been too dark to see detail. Shoot in RAW so that in post processing in Lightroom you have more latitude to edit the image as you would like since it is not a compressed .jpg file where some of the information is already gone. RAW allows you to fine tune the image more. Most of all, have fun and be inspired.
