Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken at Nossob, Kgalagadi, South Africa during October 2015.

Time

We had an electric storm that lasted for about 3 hours. This is a stacked image taken just after 20H00 PM when the storm was at its fiercest

Lighting

One of those extreme wonders of nature that most photographers would want to capture an exceptional image of.

Equipment

This is a stacked image consisting of 5 x 15 sec consecutive images Images was shot with a Nikon D5100 camera with a Sigma f/2.8 24-70mm IF EX DG HSM lens mounted on a Manfrotto tripod. EXIF settings was Nikon D5100, Sigma f2.8 24-70mm EX IF DG HSM, Mode Shutter Priority, ISO 800, f/6.3, Ss 15 sec intervals. +4.0EV

Inspiration

I've always wanted to capture more than one lighting strike at the exact same location during a short time frame. The electric storm presented the ideal opportunity.

Editing

Stacked images as layers using Photoshop CC and used LR 5.7 to create B&W image.

In my camera bag

Nikon D7000, Nikon D5100, Sigma f/2.8 24-70mm IF EX DG HSM lens, Sigma f/4.5 120-400mm DG APO HSM lens, Nikon f/3.5 18-55mm DX lens, Nikon SB700 Speedlight, 10-stop Variable ND filter

Feedback

Tripod and camera settings are important, settings are going to vary according to time of day.
