Of the 4,000+ pictures I took on my Israel trip in 2011, this was probably within the first 20 pictures I took. I have had several folks ask for enlargements among family and friends and must admit how stunning it looks as a 20"x30".

I took this picture in Old Town Joppa, Israel in May 2011. I must have taken over 6,000 pictures on this trip and this picture was one of the first pictures I took.Time
We had just landed in Tel Aviv and before going to our hotel our guide stopped in Old Town Joppa to show us this beautiful part of Jaffa. The time was around high noon creating an interesting challenge with the light.Lighting
The area of light I feared would washout the shot but I feel I ended up with a good balance between sunlight and shadows.Equipment
I took this with a Canon 50D, 24-70 1:2.8, Priority mode, 1/160, F4.5 ISO 400.Inspiration
As we toured the old city we came to a T crossing and went right. I was intrigued by the view looking left. Curious as to what kind shops are there?, what’s around the corner? I took 5 pictures and had to move on to catch up with the group.Editing
This was my first DSLR and I wasn’t familiar at all with using software to process photos. So I sent this to a friend that used photoshop and we both agree the results speak for themselves. In my camera bag
On this trip I brought 2 lenses, the 24-70 2.8 and a 70-200 2.8. I’ve since added a Canon 5D mkIV, 16-35 2.8 and a speedlite 600EXII-RT flash.Feedback
I’ve always loved photography and admire the work I’ve seen others show. As much as I love this hobby, no, rather this passion, I do not spend nearly enough time doing this. And while this picture was taken on a tour with approximately 50 people, I didn’t have the time then to explore this shot. I’ve learned since that with camera in hand, to always be looking for that special ‘something’ that catches your eye.
