At the end of the Cambodian Civil Way (1970-1975) the new Khmer Rouge government, under the leadership of Pol Pot, is said to have exterminated between 1.7 and 2.5 million people with ties to the ousted and foreign goverments, intellectuals, college granduates, and anyone else the new government felt threatened by. The executions were carried out at some 20,000 sites throughout Cambodia in mass graves. These remanents were recovered from but one mass grave.
