This photo was taken in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. The sunsets were simply spectacular, so every evening I turned my gaze to the sky to enjoy nature's beautiful canvas of colours. I have always been fascinated by the ever-changing paintings in the sky created by the rising and setting sun. The clouds infuse their own mystique and movement to every unique scene depicting a certain mood and feeling.Time
This brilliant, orange sky was shot on July 24, 2014 at 8:52:37 PM just as the sun was disappearing over the horizon.Lighting
My goal was to capture the rich orange/yellow tones and hues in such a way as to create a warm, cozy feeling while showcasing the splendours of the setting sun over the ocean.Equipment
The camera I used that evening was my handy and trustworthy Canon Powershot G10, aka 'my sidekick'. After trying out different settings, the winning combination was f/4.5, 1/320, ISO 160.Inspiration
Wherever I am in the world, I try to capture the magnificence that we see before us. I'm a self-taught enthusiast who loves to tell a story through images as well as to share and preserve my memories. Based on the body of my work, I'd call myself a travel/landscape photographer since it's the genre that I have the most experience in. However, I have been starting to develop my skills in other areas such as architecture, people and macro photography. My journey continues as I delve further into my favourite hobby and passion.Editing
The image result was as I desired so I didn't have to do much post-processing. I only tweaked it a bit by slightly using levels and contrast/brightness to give it the final punch. I generally don't do a lot of photo retouching or manipulation, only what I feel is needed to enhance it as best as possible so that it is an accurate representation of the real situation. In my camera bag
After my full camera gear (Pentax 35mm film camera, wide angle and zoom lenses, flash unit and filters) was stolen several years ago while touring Costa Rica, I re-entered the photography world with the G10 while deciding which equipment to buy. I recently received as a gift the Canon Eos Rebel T5i which included the 18-55mm and 55-250 IS STM lenses. So I will now start shooting with this camera set and see how it performs on my upcoming vacation to Iceland and England.Feedback
The sunsets in this part of the world (southern Pacific Ocean) are very beautiful. On clear evenings with slight cloud cover, the sky is brightly illuminated with rich tones. I found that the best colours appeared when the sun reached its lowest point over the horizon, just before it disappeared. The sky became a blanket of warm hues. You can control the intensity and brightness to create a particular mood, so experiment with different settings to see which results achieve the desired effect. Be patient and don't rush. Every night tells a different story. If the image speaks to you, moves you and stirs you in a positive way, then you have the perfect shot.
