Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the Natural History Museum in London, it's the escaltor to the Earth zone.

Time

The time of day was just after lunch, between 2pm & 3pm.

Lighting

The room was quite naturally dark but with splashes of light coming through the doorways and ceiling skylights. Reflections were also bouncing off the metallic globe & the escalator.

Equipment

The camera used was a 35mm Sony RX1 hand held, f/2 : ISO 1250 : 0.0125s.

Inspiration

I walked through some doors and looked over the balcony to see this view. I am an amateur astronomer so to see the constellations and planets along with planet Earth, this scene just had to be captured on camera. With the contrasts in light, coupled with the space theme, I thought the photo would be far more interesting in black & white than in colour.

Editing

Processing was very basic adjustments to brightness & contrast levels in Photoshop Express (Android version).

In my camera bag

In my camera bag used for my Sony RX1 I carry very few extras. The camera has a fixed 35mm f/2.0 Carl Zeiss Sonnar T lens, so I don't carry any additional glass. In the bag is a mini expandable tripod, a shutter release cable, spare batteries and an ND filter.

Feedback

Try to capture the unusual, or use the camera to make the usual appear unusual. I try to pay particular attention to perpective and light. But the main objective of photography is to enjoy it.
