Great capture on this photo. You have the boat lined up into the other side of the water.

Love the flow of this composition, including the sky, reflections and direction down the river. What every photo should do: Guide the viewer along. Well done and congratulations on your award!

Location
This image was taken at Carthagena Weir, in Broxbourne, England, not far from where I live. This is usually one of my favourite spots to relax after a long week. There's always something interesting to photograph there.Time
It was around midday, so not the easiest or most flattering moment to take pictures. However, the sky was delightful and helped to frame my composition marvellously.Lighting
I wanted to take advantage of the sky, the wispy clouds and the soft light that was occurring, as it is often unusual to have this kind of even, well-balanced natural light at midday on a sunny day. There was something magical about the quality of the light that particular day that I haven't encountered after.Equipment
I used a second hand Canon 40D that I had just purchased with a 17-85mm lens. I was shooting handheld: I am not a big user of tripods as I strive to capture that special moment that doesn't wait for photographers to get their settings and gear ready. When the moment is gone, is gone forever.Inspiration
It was the way the boats were aligned and their reflection on the water what first caught my eye. The beautiful sky was a very serendipitous bonus.Editing
I normally shoot in RAW and use ACR for basic adjustments such as contrast, highlight and shadow, and also to reduce the naturally occurring noise. Once this was done, I played with the sauration and luminosity slider in Photoshop until the picture really popped. I wanted to emphasize the joyful and colourful side of nature. In my camera bag
My beloved Canon 5D Mark III and a 24-105mm series L Canon lens. An extra battery... and the rest is really optional. I love the 24-105mm for its unrivalled versatilityFeedback
Some photographers would say you have to visit a few websites and check the sunrise time, the sunset time... and even the temperature of the water! And they are probably right, but I am a Carpe Moment (Enjoy the moment) photographer. If suddenly, the image you have in mind matches what it is happening before your eyes, then get your shutter working as you will be pleased with the result. Shoot always in RAW if your camera allows it, as you will have more leeway to do adjustments afterwards. It's specially useful to correct the white balance.
