Location
At Tenaya lake, in Tuolumne meadows, part of Yosemite National Park.Time
Early in the morning - between 7 and 8 a.m.Lighting
I camped just outside the park, on the east side of Tioga Pass, and got up at first light to drive across Tuolumne to Yosemite Valley. As I passed by Tenaya Lake, I saw it was unusually still: the surface was glassy, like a mirror. It's unusual at that altitude (about 8,000'), in the mountains, I'd never seen it so perfect. I parked my car, jumped out, and started running around the lake, shooting photos. I shot a few, continuing around the lake, until I found the perfect spot, with rocks and boulders in the foreground. I've shot many photos of Tenaya Lake, but that's the only one with a reflection of Stately Pleasure Dome. The ohters all have waves in the lake.Equipment
A Sony NEX-C3, no tripod, no flash, auto settings on everything. Focal length 18 mm on my main lens. Basically auto everything, just got luck with the incredibly quiet lake, and running to reach a good location.Inspiration
I've seen the lake many times, and almost always covered in choppy waves. I could see the reflection of Stately Pleasure dome, which I've climbed many times. It was an incredible sight.Editing
Only cropped it a little. In my camera bag
My Sony NEX-C3 attached to its one lens , and nothing else! I'm a purely amateur photographer with a good eye ( I'm told).Feedback
Get up early in the morning!
