On the Missouri River, north of Bismarck. The river dropped over a foot over night to create the great ice

The race against mother nature...There is a trail around this lake and a biker was racing against the lightning as you can see his light coming around

North Dakota Spring has crazy clouds at times with some wicked storms to go with them

South of Bismarck, ND. it was about 4:00am in the morning and I patently waited(ya right) for the moon to set right behind the clouds on the horizon.

Theodore Roosevelt National Park-South unit in North Dakota

Time

About 1:30 am mountain

Lighting

I used my headlamp to illuminate the scene of the foreground.

Equipment

Nikon d800 with Nikon 14-24 lens...RRS tripod And ball head. My headlamp Supplied the lighting

Inspiration

Was wanting to try something new and it was actually my first attempt at light painting a long exposure scene.

Editing

Very little... i shot the foreground at a lower iso to limit the noise and blended it with a high iso background that was simply a select lasso and mask out the parts that weren’t wanted. The scene was shot all within the same composition.

In my camera bag

Nikon full frame, 2 Nikon lenses a 14-24mm and a 85mm 1.8. Polarizers.
