Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the photo studio at my old college with a cloud made out of pillow stuffing. I don't usually use the studio for my work, i prefer the outdoors, but sometimes I could use a change of pace.

Time

This was done early morning after a fashion shoot, as a wind down. It took little set up and pacients to get the right mood and feel of a bad day.

Lighting

I wanted the image to have moody look of rain so I had one main light with a softbox on the subject feathered to give light to background.

Equipment

This was shot with a canon t3i and a standard 18-55 lens. The lighting equipment was Prophoto light with a softbox and a black backdrop.

Inspiration

My inspiration for this images was all because of the cloud. I created that cloud out of pillow stuffing and balloons and hung from the ceiling by fishing wire. The cloud was constructed for a series of fake photoshop in which all the images appeared to be photoshopped. The images in that series were very pleasant and joyful, i felt the need to contradict them.

Editing

The post-processing i did for this image was using the clone tool to extend the background, and adding rain coming from the cloud.

In my camera bag

My bag is full of different lens types, extra batteries, 16g memory cards, speedlights, and hot shoes. My favorite new lens is the Sigma 50mm f1.4 with my Canon T3i.

Feedback

I would suggest to anyone who would try to create an image similar to this is to find a good place like a studio or dark room where you can control the light, find a simple background and a good light with a softbox. I hand made the cloud but with a proficient knowledge of photoshop, the cloud could be placed.
