Thank you. It was taken at the NC zoo. The lions were given some bones as a treat. He is chasing the female lion away from "his" bone. He was hogging them and she was trying to sneak one away for the cubs.

Great moment! Maybe a bit of processing to emphasize the muscles and face expression

I love the musculature and the sinewy, raw power that is so openly displayed. Animal musculature has fascinated me for a while now, and this shot captures it so beautifully! Thank you!

Location
This photo was taken at the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro, NC.Time
It was mid-morning. About 10:30am.Lighting
The biggest obstacle to shooting animals in a zoo is the lighting. Since the zoo doesn't open until well after sunrise and closes well before sunset, you lose out on the optimal light of the day. However, on this day it was cloudy, which helped some. I used only available light (no flashes).Equipment
I shot this with a Canon 6D and a Tamron 70-200mm lens. I did not use a tripod for this shot, it was a hand held shot.Inspiration
I was excited to see that the zoo keepers had thrown bones to the lions. So many times, the lions are sleeping during the day, so I was hoping the bones would at least keep them active so I could get an interesting shot. There were 6 lions - a male, female and 4 cubs. Once the bones were thrown, the male grabbed several. The female lion managed to get a couple. When I saw her approaching the male lion to get another one for the cubs (I am assuming, it could have been for her), I could tell by the way the male lion was watching her that something was about to happen. So, I focused my camera on them and waited. Within seconds he started to chase her away and I snapped this shot.Editing
I use Lightroom on all of my pictures for most of the post-processing. For this picture, I also used Intensify Pro to bring out a bit more sharpness. In my camera bag
What I carry in my bag depends on what I plan to shoot that day. I always carry my cameras - Canon 6D and T5. For trips to the zoo or other wildlife photography, I carry my telephoto lenses. I have a Tamron 70-200mm for zoo trips or other fairly close wildlife shots. For most of my wildlife photography, I usually use my Sigma 150-500mm.Feedback
Pay attention to what is happening to and around the animal you are trying to shoot, so that you can be prepared when something happens. My husband (also a photographer) completely missed this shot because he was looking in another direction at the right moment. This entire chase only lasted seconds. If I hadn't been watching them and had my camera focused on him, I would have missed it.
