I took this photo in a field right next to the forge mill needle museum in redditch UK. Its quite a big area with many fields and castle ruins .Time
It was about 1pm on a warm summer day .Lighting
It was sunny, lighting was tricky with the sun going in and out. On this shot the sun had just gone in so the shadows were less harsh .Equipment
I used Nikon D7000 with a 18 - 55 mm lens, I did have a flash fitted but I didn't use it on this picture.Inspiration
It was a split second decision , my daughter in the picture had run up to the fence and I instantly loved the shot. With the fence leading out and my daughter looking over it , the dead tree . The crows I added later but I already had that idea when I took the shot.Editing
The post processing I did first was the standard levels and such... Then I took it over to my Ipad where I used snapseed to give it a grunge type look . Then I used an app called repix where I added the crows flying out of the tree for extra effect. In my camera bag
I now have a D7100 and I always carry everything around with me to list it would take a while , It's quite a heavy pack but I cant help myself . I always know I will have the right lens for the job that way. I have about 6 lenses ranging from 10mm up to 300mm and a speedlight flash gun with a flash modifier kit and gels.Feedback
Well big open fields with single dead trees would be a good start , if you can find one with a fence too even better! . The settings I used for this shot was manual mode, F16 ,ISO 160, 1/160 sec and focal length 18mm . A cloudy day would be best as its gives texture to the sky when adding the grunge effect. Just get outside with your camera, experiment and enjoy!
