Location
I took this image in Essaouira beach in Morocco. It was precisely on the left side of the bay. The island we see is called Mogador and it is an anciant penitentiary.Time
It was late afternoon, more or less 1 hour before sunset.Lighting
Stormy clouds were passing quite fast while the sun was setting. It gave a special and very interesting mood with bright and dark parts in the sky. I walked for a while on the beach before finding this nice spot with rocks and nice perspective to the island.Equipment
I made this image with Nikon D700 and Nikkor 16-35 lens. I also used the B+W 1000 ND filter and of course my tripod. I did a 30 sec exposure in order to capture the water and clouds movement.Inspiration
The weather conditions and the general mood of this late afternnon seemed really worth to shoot. After a whole cloudless week with ordinary dusks I felt I could have a chance to get nice and dramatic atmosphere images. It was quite windy and the stormy clouds were flying pretty fast so I decided to make a long exposure shot to capture it. I also liked the rocks on the beach and the leading sand line to the island which I thought would give a pleasant composition.Editing
As always I processed the raw file with camera raw and photoshop. I didn't had to do a lot of work on this image except usual curve, contrast and saturation adjustments. I also light up a little the foreground which was a bit too underexposed. In my camera bag
I do have Nikon D7000/D700 bodies with several Nikkor lenses such as the 10-24, 16-35, 17-55, 70-300... I also have a couple of ND filters (B+W 400 & 1000) My tripod is a manfrotto.Feedback
Even the weather looks bad or stormy, do not hesitate to go out anyway. It often offers nice photo opportunities.
