This is great. It really shows the intimate moments of an artist on stage, even when they're surrounded by hundreds to thousands of fans. Keep it up!

What a wonderful mixture. I feel the quiet and sense of power in this image. So moving. Well done.

Location
This photo of Ed Sheeran was taken at the UK xFactor Final last year during the live show where I was working.Time
The shot was taken indoors around 20:00.Lighting
With only the stage lighting available it's absolutely critical you take every opportunity to capture a special moment, to build your story. I held back until the spotlight moved towards Ed, I was about 15ft away using a 70-200 with stabilisation which allowed me to expose for the subject and handhold to 1/60 which kept it sharp.Equipment
My trusty Nikon D800, 70-200 2.8 VRII and my aching arms.Inspiration
I'm lucky to be in the position of being able to attend some events like this with some really amazing artists, some who I adore. To capture a moment of Ed in this environment is special to me as I'm yet to find another image of him like this.Editing
Yes, indeed. Every image has something done to it. You originally capture as much detail as you can then decide what works best without making it look fake. I removed a faint resemblance of his supporting band and added another light stream from the right hand side, darkened the over all image and sharpened up Ed. Took around 20 mins in total. In my camera bag
It depends on what the commission is but generally don't go anywhere without my 85 1.4, 50 1.4, 700-200 2.8 and my beast 14-24 2.8. I use both the Nikon D800 & D700 as a backup. Lots of memory cards, iPad for wireless transfer and batteries.Feedback
Low light photography can be amazingly rewarding. You have the power to be very creative either by skilful use of light or with complete luck. Practise is key. Composition in camera should be the very first thing you learn in photography, you can do this just by using a cheap camera or a phone. Next, using a DSLR use spot metering to expose for your subject, tinker with your ISO remembering that anything over 1000 is going to cause problems with grain, although some can be removed in post processing but try to keep it as low as possible. The next thing is to go out there and experiment, most of all just have fun creating what you love doing!
