Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Millbrook Village in New Jersey at the Delaware Water Gap. Millbrook Village has lots of interesting historic buildings. But the blacksmith shop is one of my favorites. And I love visiting here in the fall with all the warm autumn colors.

Time

I shot this in the morning hours on an overcast day.

Lighting

Because it was overcast I think the colors really popped. Everything seemed perfect on that day.

Equipment

This image was taken with my Canon 40D and a Canon 70-200mm f/4 L lens, hand held.

Inspiration

I love the textures in the shop, the beautiful, colorful foliage and the antique carriage parked out front. It was just a lovely picturesque scene.

Editing

I used Photoshop to enhance the colors and to add the smoke coming out of the chimney. And I also used Topaz Adjust to bring out all the textures in the shop and the foliage.

In my camera bag

A Canon 5D Mark ll, a Canon 70-200mm f/ 4 L lens, a Canon 24-105mm f/4 L lens, a Canon 50mm f/1.4 lens, a Canon 85mm f/1.8 and a Canon 580 EX ll speed light.

Feedback

I love to go out on overcast days and take these kinds of shots. The colors are nicely saturated from the lighting on cloudy days. And I always shoot places like this from different spots and angles and in different seasons. Fall and winter are my favorite times. I think this was taken at f/8 or f/11.
