Behind The Lens

Location

I took this in Oceanside California

Time

I dont remember the exact time of day, it was definitely later in the afternoon.

Lighting

This location always had a lot of fog that came in and one of my favorite things to shoot is foggy landscapes

Equipment

I had a Canon 40d. No tripod and no other equipment.

Inspiration

I love foggy landscapes and this pelican was posing for me so I nabbed the shot. I had just moved to California and this was a great welcoming present.

Editing

I took this photo years ago and I had a very different pp workflow. This photo uses some layering techniques in photoshop such as overlay perhaps. I also used HDR tonemapping to really bring out the details. I changed the hue and saturation just a little bit to add some warmth.

In my camera bag

Right now I have my 7D and a slew of lenses. My go-to lens is the 85mm 1.8. I also like to break out my 10-24mm superwide on certain landscapes.

Feedback

Be in the moment and always have a camera on hand. I still remember the photos that I didnt get to take because I figured I would just leave my camera bag at home. I always take my camera out with me wherever I go.
