Location
I did take the photo at Brouwershaven, the Netherlands.Time
We arrived at 7.00 in the morning, still dark and very windy, cold and a little rain.Lighting
Well, the light came in very very quickly and I think in just 15 minutes the black sky turned into these beautiful colors. Every minute the colors changed en this wat just one of the great moments the sky turned in blue and a little pink and orange.Equipment
D800 Nikon 14-24 F 2.8 Formatt Hitech soft grad 0.6 Formatt Hitech ND 10 stopsInspiration
Well, I went there together with some photography friends from Holland and it was actually one of my first daytime long exposure shots. The one who inspired me to try LE shots, is Joel Tjintjelaer, although this is a totally different style.Editing
Of course. I used Lightroom 5 to retouch the flat rawfile and after that I used a bit of PS CC 2014 and Topaz Adjust. The sky was very colorfull and I wanted to get back the nice and soft colors. It was very windy and due to the Formatt 10 stops ND, I could have a shutterspeed of 93 seconds. So, the water and sky is very softs and just takes you to the point of interest. In my camera bag
Well, a D800 and D600 Nikon. 24-70 F2.8 Nikon 70-200 F2.8 Nikon 50mm 1.4 Nikon 14-24 F2.8 Nikon 85mm 1.8 Nikon Manfrotto Tripod remote control Formatt Hitech filters 3,6 and 10 stops and 0.6 soft and hard grad gradient filtersFeedback
Use the ND filters 10 stops to have such long shutterspeeds to soften the sky and the water. Shoot in RAW and not in JPEG. This gives you the opportunity to have all the colors and details. Use radial filters to bring back in the soft tones and do not oversaturate the colors. Keep them realistic and soft. Use a gradient filter to capture all the colors and to lower the difference in stops of the sky and water. Use gradient masks to soften the differences in exposure, contrast, sharpness en colors
