Location
It was monsoon season and I was out on family picnic in a countryside; about 2 hours from Mumbai. We were wondering around the lake when I spotted this beautiful yellow flower on the shore of a lake.Time
The photo was clicked in the morning of 23rd August 2014. It was a bright day when we started on our little trek to the picnic spot.Lighting
As it was rainy season, it got bit overcast later on. There was no direct sunlight but was sufficiently lit. So that was a good weather to click.Equipment
When I clicked this picture, I had Nikon D3200 camera with Nikkor 18-55mm, f/3.5-5.6G lens. That time I had just started using the DSLR camera, learning and taking interest in Photography. The flower that I was going to click was on a slope near the lake so I had to step down a bit. I sat down, positioned myself so that I would be sufficiently close to get the snap.Inspiration
The area surrounding the lake as well as the hills nearby were almost green. There were hardly any flowering plants nearby. So this bright yellow flower of Colocasia, commonly known as Elephant Ears caught my attention. The flower is quite unusual - Calla lily like with yellowish-white spathes and spadixes and is usually hidden by the foliage. The shape and color of flower with the green background was looking beautiful.Editing
Some basic post processing like color, contrast and brightness was done. The flower itself is so simple yet pretty and well separated from background with nice bokeh that nothing else needed to be done. I love the shallow depth of field in this picture. In my camera bag
When I clicked this picture, I had Nikon D3200 camera with Nikkor 18-55mm, f/3.5-5.6G lens. Later on as I got more interested in Photography; I added Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G and Nikon 70-300 mm f/4.5-5.6 lenses. Sometimes I use macro filters too while clicking macro pictures. For landscapes a tripod is a must.Feedback
Closeups or macro shots show so much details of color, shape and textures. There is abundant beauty in our nature. The way to find it is by being observant and aware of the surroundings. While taking a closeup it is always good idea to keep the subject and the background separated so that you get clear well defined picture with nice bokeh. Keep the aperture as big as possible to let more light come in. It is always good idea to have your subject well lit except when you are clicking silhouettes. Also, the point of focus must be the most important part of the subject that you want to highlight in the picture.
