Location
This shot was taken during a day trip with some family friends, my wife and two young sons to the Olympic Park in London. It was the first time that I'd been back there since the 2012 Games, and it still somehow felt like a magical place. The image is of the spheres that run the length of one of the parks outer concourses. There were dozens of photographers in the park, but most were ignoring the balls in favour of the various other structures in the park. I'm sure they thought I was wasting my time!Time
The shot was taken just before midday. I recall this as my two young toddlers were both losing their patience with their dad's constant photo-taking, and lack of lunch-provision!Lighting
Nothing but natural light. It was a beautiful Autumn day.Equipment
Canon 600d, with a Sigma 105mm f2.8Inspiration
On my first visit to the Olympic park, my first son was only a few weeks old. I took a lot of photos that day, which upon later review turned out to be almost exclusively of him. Typical of a new father! I vowed however that on my next trip I'd shoot more of the park itself, and these spheres just seemed to catch the light in a pleasant way.Editing
No post processing , other than cropping. In my camera bag
Since taking this photo, I've swapped out my Canon kit for a fuji X-pro 1, complete with a wide angle 18mm f2 & 35mm f1.4. I usually carry a flash, and some Cokin ND filters, in case I find myself near the coast.Feedback
Increasingly I'm starting to gain some success with taking the less obvious shots. So many times in the past I had ended up heading to landmarks and locations only to take the same shots you'd see a hundred times over elsewhere. I'm now having considerably more fun with my photography looking for the shots that might not be immediately obvious.
