Location
This photo was taken at Pantai Chenang, Langkawi, MalaysiaTime
We had just finished sailing from Thailand to Langkawi and went to the beach on sunset to celebrate our arrival. Whilst walking along the beach to our restaurant my eye caught this starfish in the sand. I loved how its imprint was beside it and the light was just reaching the starfish.Lighting
This was done with nothing but the natural light from the sunset. It was a gorgeous clear night, so often experienced in the tropics.Equipment
Nikon D800, hand held with a 10-24mm lens. Focal length for the shot was 20mm at F3.5Inspiration
Nature! It was by chance that I walked along this section of beach and saw the star fish at my feet. The way it sat, so simply but beautifully in the evening light inspired me to lay down in the sand and get the shot. (lucky dress code is "casual beach" at restaurants there as I arrived covered in sand!)Editing
I have to admit, I am not good at post processing, so the majority of my photos have very little adjustments. This one was cropped, exposure lifted by 1/3 stop and as I shoot in RAW I lifted the vibrancy and clarity. In my camera bag
Always, always my D800 with my favourite lens the 24-70mm F2.8. Its an great all-round lens for travelling and the picture quality is fantastic. Next would be my wide angle 14-24mm F4 and 70-200mm F4 (all Nikkor) Depending where I am off to and how much I really want to carry I may also pack my 105mm Macro which is also a great prime lens and the nifty fifty 1.4mm which is packed if I know I will be in situations with low light. Just recently I have added NISI filters to my kit and look forward to getting in some practice with these. This all manages to get into my Lowerpro Transit Backpack that also squeezes in the laptop and fits into the overhead compartment in planes, whilst being very comfortable for a day out shooting.Feedback
Photo opportunities abound, watch the light and see how it changes - does it make the subject pop? Take a walk along the waters edge and you will be surprised by how much you can see!
