Behind The Lens

Location

Zion National Park

Time

Around 11 am

Lighting

cloudy sky blocked the sun, so I was able to do long exposure.

Equipment

Nikon D7000, Nikon 35mm 1.8G lens, tripod, ND2-400 filter

Inspiration

Winter at Zion National Park, snow cover the trees, but this river is still flow.

Editing

Shoot in RAW, used Nikon Capture NX-2 to adjust the white balance and exposure and color.

In my camera bag

I always bring my ND filter, CPL filter with me, it helps to take long exposure at daytime with tripod. Sigma 17-50 f2.8 lens is the lens that I used the most, because it has good image, but also able to zoom.

Feedback

Use a stable tripod that able use set close to the ground, and a good ND filter, I wish I have a ND 1000 filter to take this shot. Use 100 iso. Since ND filter will make it so hard to see in viewfinder, I suggest that find the right angle, and focus then put on the ND filter, you have to use M mode adjust the exposure by you self, since camera can't do that correct with the ND filter. You can take a few shot, and use the diagram to find out the exposure, that will be a lot better than looking at the picture from screen, since the sunlight will decrece your screen brightness, and make you believe your picture is under exposure when it is correct exposure.
