I took this photo of my daughter Danielle in my home studio in North Ridgeville, Ohio USA.Time
I was practicing my portrait work at home and my daughter Danielle was gracious enough to pose for me. We took this photo at 12:20pm during my lunch break.Lighting
This photo was taken in my family room in my home, there is nice light from ample windows and skylights that are reflected in my daughters eyes, also the catch light from my external flash with a Gary Fong diffuser. I wanted the scene to look like a winters night, so I draped a black backdrop behind Danielle to see like it was dark outside.Equipment
Camera: Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL XSi, hand held - no tripod) Aperture: f/2.8 ISO: 800 Shutter Speed: 1/160 Canon 430EX External Flash with Gary Fong diffuser attached to the flash.Inspiration
I love taking photos of Danielle, she is a great poser and has amazing eyes, the camera seems to love her. I thought the fur hood contrasted nicely against her almost porcelain skin, she reminded me of 'snow white' that day with her cherry red lips. I hope I captured the feel of a cold winters day from inside my family room.Editing
I edited the photo in Adobe photoshop, I adjusted the skin tones to increase the blue in her skin, to make it seem more cold. I removed slight blemishes and smoothed the skin and I added the now flakes as a layer, there was no snow in my family room that day. : )In my camera bag

Take time finding the best light for the mood you are looking for if possible. Be patient with your model and respect there needs as you photograph them. Have fun in post-processing, but don't over do it and make the photo look un-natural.
