This is a phototure that makes evokes emotion on a couple of levels. It makes me what to make friends with the horses, I want to touch them. I can feel the wind blow and I can tell that it is cold an muddy. The waterfall in the background is slightly out of focus, but my eye is still drawn there. the barbed wire fence in front is so subtle but such an important element. This is a beautiful phototure.

Location
While traveling the Ring Road in southern Iceland, near the town of Höfn, if I remember correctly.Time
I took this picture probably around mid-day; its hard to tell as it had been overcast for a week!Lighting
Not much to share by way of lighting, I really didn't do anything special for this shot. It was an overcast day which actually made for a nice soft light for the scene. I was going to get a shot of the horse galloping and playing in the field, but as soon as I got close, they lost interest in each other and just wanted to say hi to me!Equipment
I used a Nikon D800 and a 24-70 2.8, no other equipment needed.Inspiration
I'd see pictures of Icelandic horses before, they seem to a staple shot of any photographer who has wanderer around Iceland for awhile, and for good reason. They are exceptionally beautiful animals and super friendly! They've got those rock star manes and can't help but to be photogenic. Plus I saw the beautiful waterfall on the cliffside which was this amazing 200ft falls that anywhere else would be a tourist attraction but here in Iceland is just one of unnamed 100's, so I made sure to get the horses in the place where I could keep it in my frame.Editing
As for post, I didn't do much, just the basics really, color correction, sharpness and a bit on the levels. I did bring down the highlights a bit so that the sky wasn't completely blown out.In my camera bag
I carry a lot of gear, as I always want to be prepared and I'm usually doing more than one shot at a time, for digital I carry a D800 x 2, with 3 lenses, 14-24 2.8, 24-70 2.8, 70-200 2.8, and a 2x teleconverter. I also have a Sony a7Sii which I use for time-lapse and video, as well as a Dynamic Perception Motion 1 time-lapse dolly. Also still shoot a film camera, my Mamiya 67ii with 43, 65 and 100mm. A Nikon SB900 speed light and a bunch of different flashlights, plus a few Gitzo 2880's.Feedback
For anyone trying to capture something similar, your first step is going to be buying a ticket to Iceland. There wasn't anything technically difficult about this image, its more just getting there and finding some friendly creatures, oh yeah, and bring some carrots. They really like those and will stick around and pose for you picture a lot longer if you keep them interested with a snack!
