Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken outside my home after a summer thunderstorm.

Time

The photo was taken mid-afternoon. I was interested in how the lighting looked after the storm. The light shifted from strong, bright, direct sunlight to this soft, glowing, calm light that seem to illuminate the surroundings, especially the rain droplets. The lighting after a summer thunderstorm is unique and distinct.

Lighting

I wanted this image to capture that calm, almost glowing softness of nature after a thunderstorm.

Equipment

Canon Rebel with Close Up Lens filter.

Inspiration

I love how water distorts and reflects not only light but its surroundings. The way these particular drops were resting on the leaf emphasized those aspects.

Editing

This picture required only some slight contrast adjustments to emphasize the raindrops.

In my camera bag

Most of my captures are taken on the go and unexpected so the complexity of equipment varies. I always have my Canon Rebel with 35 mm lens ready to go along with filters, extra batteries and more.

Feedback

Don't be caught off guard and miss out on opportunities that come up in nature to take inspiring photographs. Always be observing and drawing inspiration fro your surroundings. Sometimes you can prep, plan, and work hard to capture the perfect shot and other times one just appears right in front of you that is just as powerful.
