Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on boat dock in the Venetian Lagoon, there was a security guard that was kind enough to let me pass so I could get this one.

Time

It was a cold and foggy morning, the sun was covered by a slim layer of clouds which made the light even, I was shooting this on that shaky dock, but fortunately the water was pretty calm and with the help of the tripod I managed to take the shot.

Lighting

It was early in the morning, the sun was rising but it was covered by a layer of fog which diffused the light.

Equipment

Nikon D3100 with the kite tele lens 55-200mm and a ND8 filter, a cheap aluminium tripod.

Inspiration

Minimalistic B&W shots from great masters of that genre, which I like very much!

Editing

I initially corrected the tones in Lightroom after that I passed it to SilverEffex and finally sharped it in Photoshop.

In my camera bag

My Nikon D3100 with the kit lenses 18-55mm VR and the 55-200mm VR plus Nikon 50mm f1.8D, a Hoya ND3.0 filter, a Hoya circular polarizer and a kit of cheap ND filters. Also my super cheap aluminium tripod (20$)

Feedback

Recently it happen to read more that one article about that is not so important to have the most expensive gear to take good shots, and I partially agree with that. Why partially? Because the most important part of photography is always the man behind the camera, it's you who try to get good shots and put you talent and will in it, but that partially refers to the fact that it could be more sharp or more dramatic with a better gear, but that's another story. The moral is get out and shoot, try to achieve good results and prove what I said before.
