Location
This photo was taken in one of San Francisco’s ecological treasures, Heron’s Head Park is a 22-acre open space and thriving wildlife habitat located in the City’s Southeast Sector. Heron’s Head Park is one of the few wetlands on San Francisco’s shoreline surrounded by gigantic crates and wide variety of birds.Time
It was around 15 minutes after the sunset. We were walking our way as close as possible to be at the end of the shoreline before we totally lose the sun. Though we did not make it to our original plan the photo still came out better than expected. You never realized how time flies when you are actually there.Lighting
I shot this at f/2.8 using natural light directly on the right side of her face. It was getting windy and cold at the same time. Luckily enough, the wind was blowing away from her face making it even more appealing.Equipment
I use Canon 7D and Canon lens EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM (I call it, "THE MAGIC LENS") ;)Inspiration
The original plan was to capture her on a white dress using the bridge and crates as the background. The idea of being alone on a deserted place capturing a young lady dressed in white. Obviously that never took place due to time constraints. Plan b was to let nature take its course. Sure enough the essence of the original plan was still captured maybe even better than the original plan.Editing
I use Lightroom for all my post-processing. A little tweak in tone was all I did.In my camera bag
I have a Canon 7D perfect for all around shooting. My old time favorite MAGIC LENS EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM for shooting portraits. I also carry the one photographer must have - Canon EF50mm f/1.8 II. A Canon 100mm f/2.8L IS Macro lens. A Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L II for capturing landscape. I also carry (2) Canon 580EX II, (3)Pocket Wizard Plus III, (2) flash lights with 300 lumens, Sekonic light meter and lots of ENELOOP batteries.Feedback
Feel your surroundings, be prepared for change. When things go wrong, trust your instincts and react to it.
