Beautiful shot. Well done. Love the coloring in this sunrise picture. Very warm tones.

Behind The Lens

Location

Although it´s a sunrise photo, it was taken at the Sunset Point at the awesome Bryce Canyon in Utah.

Time

I got up @ 4 am and drove to the location. I read in some forums that strangely the sunset point would be best for sunrises so I took my chances. The photo was taken @ 5.26 am

Lighting

The sun was slowly climbing above the ridge in the background illuminating the whole scenery more and more which was really a great spectacle and definetly worth getting up so early.

Equipment

Canon 600D (EOS Rebel T3i), Tokina AT-X 124 pro DX 12-24 f4, Bilora tripod, shutter release cable

Inspiration

The day before we went to hike the Navajo Trail. This was my first time at the Bryce Canyon and the colorful rocks and surreal landscape made me think that that would be an absolute must have sunrise photo.

Editing

I captured 7 exposures and combined them to an HDR with Photomatix. I tried not to overdo the HDR effect so I went easy on the sliders. The final adjustments were done in Lightroom.

In my camera bag

Back then I had a 600d (EOS Rebel T3i), but upgraded to a 7d in the meantime. I have a Canon 24-105 which I almost carry everytime when taking pictures, as well as the canon 50mm f1.4 When doing landscapes the tokina 12-24 is also in my bag. My newest lense is a tamron 150-600 which I don´t carry everywhere I go of course.

Feedback

Get up early, time goes by so ultra fast in the morning that missing the right point could happen very easily. Use a tripod, double check your camera settings and shoot lots of pictures.
