Location
This photo was taken on my friend's dairy farm in England.I was walking around taking landscape shots and this one cow kept following me!Time
From memory this was around mid afternoon, about 2 or 3 pm.Lighting
It was turning into a stormy day with a mix of very dark cloud and some fleeting moments of sun. Not enough sun however to use a polarising filter.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon Eos 650D and a Sigma 18-250 mm lens on a tripod.Inspiration
I love wandering around my friends farm and every year I do a calendar for her featuring the landscape and her cattle. On this particular day the stormy sky and subtle light made for some exciting photos, but I really got lucky with this one as everything seemed to line up!Editing
The raw image was first processed in Photomatix Pro and tweeked in Photoshop elements. In my camera bag
I try to travel fairly lightly when going overseas so on this trip I had my Canon 650 D plus the Sigma 18-250 lens. I never go out without my Tamron 90 mm. you never know when you are going to find some tiny flower or insect, it also makes a good portrait lens.I always have various filters, polarising, neutral density and a variable ND.My tripod is also essential as I no longer have a very steady hand! And of course the obvious spare battery and sd cards, I have been caught out in the past.Feedback
The main thing with trying to photograph animals is tons of patience. I spent three or four days on this particular project just walking around the fields.I do not like to do too much editing and try and frame everything up initially which can take a while, once again patience and more patience. It is easy( well for me anyway) to focus on the animal and forget the background.
