Location
This was taken at the newborn family house a few days after he was born.Time
I remember this being on a really rainy day in late afternoon. They had a great patio room that had been recently painted which gave this photo it's nice neutral backdrop.Lighting
The room we were in had great natural light. This was a really early photo of mine and I hadn't yet ventured into on or off camera flash so it was entirely done with natural light.Equipment
This was shot with very basic beginner equipment and shows that expensive equipment doesn't always have to be used to make a great photo. Canon Rebel 3Ti, 50mm lens.Inspiration
The family wanted a great photo of their new addition and his big sister. Since she was so much older it just made sense to have her come in and give him a sweet kiss.Editing
Yes this was touched up in photo shop elements to give it a nice vintage feel.In my camera bag
This was taken several years ago so my bag has changed up quite a bit now. I now shoot with a Canon 5D Mark III and almost always have my 24-70mm mounted for quick access. I also always travel with a 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, and 105mm macro lens. I also have 2 external flashes at the ready for on or off camera flash.Feedback
My sessions are always about making my subjects feel comfortable. I feel that they come through a lot more authentic and real. In this case we made sure that the newborn was warm and in a comfortable position before introducing big sister into the session. Having her also comfortable with where she was in the photo, that she could easily be seen, and that she felt special to be having such a sweet moment with her new brother made a big difference in getting this authentic moment.
